Our history began back in the 1800's in Caldonia, Mississippi. We became descendants of the Anglo-Saxon, Indian and African-American people. Our great, great grandparents endured many hardships and did not have the power to give or not give consent. The husbands or fathers were powerless during those times. One does not choose the parents they have but shall live with the results forever.
Two brothers, Ruben and Daniel Grove, were plantation owners who bought and sold slaves. Around 1850, records show they were in Mahoning County, Ohio. However, family members state that they were from Pennsylvania. These brothers impregnated the two sisters, Barbara (Ella) and Fannie Donald, in Caldonia, Mississippi. We do not have information on the parents of the sisters.
It is believed that Daniel is the father of all of the Grove children. Ruben impregnated Barbara (Ella) with two children: Henry and Annie Grove. Ella gave Henry away to the Pound family. Another child was born, Annie, however, did not live very long.
Daniel impregnated Fannie with four children: Elbert, Willie Mae, Desport, and Mary. Daniel saw to it to have his children taken to school and over the plantation in a buggy. It is know in all of the southern states that when the plantation owner chose the woman, no one else was allowed to be with her. As life's journey continued to move forward, Barbara (Ella) and Fannie were taken away from Caldonia, Mississippi as Daniel had begun to be with both of the sisters.
It has been said that Daniel impregnated both of the sisters. A family member states that she had a conversation with Henry and Elbert as to what relationship they were to each other. The answer was "we are brothers".
